Edward Henderson hails from the hills above Kingtson, Jamaica, where natural burial was ingrained in the culture. There, when a death occurred in the community, townspeople would come together to prepare for their community member’s final journey. As an undertaker, Edwards’s grandfather would prepare the body, and Edward’s father and two cousins helped build the coffin. When Edward was 15, upon the passing of a neighbor, Edward’s father asked him to help build a newly designed casket, and he was asked to do the sanding and staining. At the funeral, the outpouring of gratitude for father and son’s loving craftsmanship stoked Edward’s passion for continuing the legacy of a caring and personal participation in the end of life celebration.

In Western Colorado, founding members Edward Henderson and Bridget Holvenstot decided to combine Edward’s passion and expertise in casket-building with their environmental ethics. While researching eco-friendly materials and processes, they encountered Joe Sehee, founder of the newly-established Green Burial Council. Meeting Joe and learning more about green burial inspired them to join the nascent movement through the production of high-end caskets, handcrafted to the most exacting standards of quality and sustainability.

Thus Kingstown Green Eco-Friendly Caskets was born.
